Randall’s Top 2, 2022

pictures of Randall's favorite movies, books, podcasts and TV shows of 2022

2022 had some pretty amazing horror, and while I didn’t see all of it, I still picked favorites because I am not a scientist.

Movies

  1. Prey - OH MY GOD THIS MOVIE WAS SO GOOD. I didn’t even realize it was a Predator movie it was that good. More indigenous heroines being smart and kicking ass please. More rescue dog sidekicks as well. And even though this was a Predator movie, the bear was the scariest part.

  2. Barbarian - a truly surprising horror movie, and it’s not even being cute about it. Every horror movie should be set in Detroit.

Podcasts

  1. Celebrity Book Club - Chelsea Devantez is a goddamn delight. Highly recommend an Insta follow as well.

  2. Radio Rental - I am loathe to enjoy a Payne Lindsey joint (sorry to be a hater but it’s my natural state), but this pod is the perfect creepy morsel.

Books

  1. I’m Glad My Mom Died - I didn’t know about Jennette McCurdy before this book and now I would die for her.

  2. Cursed Bunny - I cannot stop thinking about this book of weird and beautiful stories, and most especially ‘Scars’. Someone please translate the rest of Bora Chung’s work into English immediately.

TV

  1. White Lotus - If Jennifer Coolidge started a religion, I would tithe the shit out of it.

  2. Yellowjackets - MORE MURDERING (CANNIBAL??) TEEN GIRLS shows please and thank you. Technically 2021, but I watched it in 2022 like everyone else, OK?

Music

Renaissance, by Queen Bey of course.

Honorable Mentions

  • Piggy (movie) - Revenge of a fat teenager in a small Spanish town

  • Watcher (movie) - Not to be confused with the terrible/wonderful TV show. This is a truly excellent horror set in Romania, with the most perfect heroine AND villain.

  • Nope (movie) - Jordan Peele and Keke Palmer can do no wrong.

  • Unspooled (podcast) - an unpretentious podcast about movies.

  • If Books Could Kill (podcast) - talking shit about Malcolm Gladwell, David Brooks and other jerks.

  • At the Edge of the Woods (book) - deeply unsettling book about a dad and his son in a cabin at the, you guessed it, the edge of the woods. Probably about climate change??

  • I think I checked out every single one of Nicci French’s books from the library this year and I can’t say I recommend, but I did enjoy.

  • Severance (TV) - perfect

  • Bad Sisters (TV) - also perfect, and how I finally gave into an Apple TV subscription.
